Monogram Choices
Its true that Creative Assistant Weddings prints invitations and provides FREE consultation to newly engaged couples in the central New York area. But did you know we also sell personalized glassware, favors, linens and gifts? If you set up an appointment with me to view wedding invitation albums in your home, be sure to ask me for the free book called “Quite Personally… A collection of fine accessories, gifts and favors with a personalized touch.” Just browsing through the pages, you’ll find some great (and unique) ideas to get your planning started. When it comes to personalizing though, one question I get asked a lot is …“What is the proper way to set up a monogram?”
Well, if the bride is taking the groom’s last name, the middle initial of the monogram is usually the first letter of that last name, and larger than the other two letters… one of which is on the left and one is on the right. But as to “which” of these smaller letters goes where, we’ve done a little research:
Embroidery Arts - Rules of monogramming: They state that “In the modern world… The rules haven’t really been revisited lately, and some confusion and disagreement have always accompanied these rules anyway. In an effort to help extend the rules for the 21st Century, we hosted a focus group and asked participants to respond to a series of monogramming situations.” They found that the majority prefer that the man’s initial goes on the left and the woman’s initial goes on the right. However, there is a reasonable vote for the opposite, with this comment representing their reasoning – “…linens are generally considered a bride’s domain.” There’s many more examples for other name combinations, so be sure to check out this interesting article.
eHow – provides step-by-step instructions for creating monograms at home on linens and such. But they too, state that “Tradition in the three-letter monogram is that the last name’s initial is placed in between the first and middle initial, and is larger than the other two.
As you’ll see in the items that are found in my “Quite Personally” book, there are many alternatives to the monogram, such as first name with date, or just the first letter of last name by itself, along with other styles. If you’re not in the central New York area and you see something from the “Quite Personally” website that you like, just place your order online. It’s that simple. You’ll get personal assistance for your order as soon as I receive it. And you don’t pay a thing until I contact you via email or phone to discuss your order and answer any questions you might have. Once we’re sure everything is correct, the order will be submitted, and will ship right to your door. “My” personal assistance… is what will make “Your” personalized order… gifts that will be cherished for a lifetime.
